The middle school course of earth science is designed to give all students an overview of common themes in earth science including, but not limited to, meteorology, geology, astronomy, oceanography, resources and human impact on the earth.
The purpose of this communication is to inform you of the basic requirements and expectations of this course.
Upon completion of this course, students will…
Methods of Evaluation and Assessment
A variety of methods will be used throughout the year to assess your progress toward meeting the Georgia Performance Standards. DO NOT ask “is this for a grade?” Everything done in this class is moving you toward meeting the Georgia Performance Standards and will be assessed.
Based on the policy of our new program, zeros are not permitted (ZAP), students who fail to complete assignments will be assigned a day to stay after school to complete the missing work. The day will vary by teacher. Students assigned to ZAP will be required to attend. A bus will be available to take students home if they are not picked up by 4:30.
To help you understand how your assignments will be weighted, please review the following scale:
1. Tests and Projects - 30%
2. Classwork and Homework - 30%
3. Notebook, quizzes, lab reports and other assignments - 30%
4. Midterm & Final - 10%
Expected Classroom Behavior
In order to fully participate in the planned activities and achieve the outcomes, certain classroom behaviors must be followed. These behaviors include:
Failure to follow the classroom expectations will result in consequences. Because different violations of the expectations may warrant different types of consequences, specific consequences are not tied directly to the violation. Rather, violation of an expectation will provide your teacher with a choice of appropriate consequences which include but are not limited to:
Remember, your behavior not only affects your ability to learn but also that of those around you.

August 28 - Progress reports go home
October 23 - PTO and Family Science Fun Night

The purpose is to give all students an overview of common strands in life science including, but not limited to, diversity of living organisms, structure and function of cells, heredity, ecosystems and biological evolution.
